Be Heard, Be Strong, Be Proud, I Wanna Make Some Noise

Bridgit Mendler, Hayley Kiyoko, Blake Michael, Naomi Scott and Adam Hicks definitely made some noise on Friday night with Lemonade Mouth pulled in 5.7 Million viewers!

Ranking as the No. 1 TV Telecast among kids 6-11 (2.3 million/9.4 rating) and tweens 9-14 (2.1 million/8.5 rating), and cable’s No. 1 original movie of 2011 among total viewers (5.7 million), the Lemonade Mouth crew not only had that to celebrate — but some soundtrack feats as well!

The Lemonade Mouth soundtrack is No. 1 on the iTunes Soundtrack chart and is the No. 4 Album overall. Moreover, hit songs “Somebody,” “Determinate” and “Don’t Ya Wish U Were Us” rank in the Radio Disney Top 30.

From Mark: “Many thanks to the cast, crew, and all those who worked so hard to make this happen!” 🙂

Lemonade Mouth: An A+ Musical Teen Flick John Hughes Would Be Proud Of
April 15, 2011,

“Frankly this is the best musical Disney has put on, eclipsing HSM and Camp Rock. There’s no cheesy dance scenes, or high schoolers having adult-age relationships. Just a refreshing movie for kids with actual role models.

Overall I give it an A+++++”

A message from Lemonade Mouth author Mark Peter Hughes:

Tonight’s the night.  At 8pm tonight the Disney Channel will finally premiere the Lemonade Mouth movie in the USA, and people will get a chance to actually see it. It doesn’t seem that long ago that the film’s producer, Debra Martin Chase, first called me (a huge surprise at my house!) to say that she loved my book and was going to somehow make it into a movie. I was thrilled, thrilled, of course, but deep down I think I had a hard time believing it would ever really happen. And yet here we are.

I want to thank the Disney Channel, the filmmakers, and the many, many talented folks who worked on the project for the huge honor they’ve done for me and my story. I’ve previewed the movie twice so far, and I can honestly say that I’m proud of what they’ve done with my story. IMHO it’s a beautiful film, and it stays true to the characters and messages I tried to convey in the book: those of speaking out, banding together, honoring families of all kinds, and acknowledging the importance of each of us. These are values I wanted to express to readers, and I’m thrilled that now the same messages will go out to millions of kids and all over the world.

For that I’m honored and humbled.

Lemonade Mouth Cast with Mark Peter Hughes in New York

Lemonade Mouth author Mark Peter Hughes and his family spent the weekend in NYC with the Lemonade Mouth cast before their 4/11 performance on Good Morning America. The car (named Penelope — the original LM touring hot rod/family minivan) is Mark’s — he’s had it since the book was first published. Check out the shout-out video clip. 🙂

Between Takes: The Lemonade Mouth movie cast

Picture this: It’s the summer of 2007. And in order to promote his then-newly published book, “Lemonade Mouth,” Mark Peter Hughes climbed into a car with his wife and three kids. And over the next eight weeks, Mark & family put 12,592 miles on their 1996 Honda Odyssey as Hughes did readings & book signings at 60 stores in 38 states.

“And since – at that time – my kids really loved the soundtrack for ‘High School Musical‘ … Well, that’s what we listened to in the car. Over & over & over again,” Mark recalled. “I mean, even when we stopped at Disneyland to have a quick family vacation in the middle of the ‘Lemonade Mouth’ book tour, there was just no escaping the songs from ‘High School Musical.’  Since this was the summer that DCA had that ‘High School Musical Pep Rally’  street show.”
